Kitchen Day 3: Tile

Fangtasia is the only one not bothered at all by all the construction
Kitchen day 3: tile placement

Day 3 was a long day! Work on the floors began at 9am & lasted to about 8pm! The tile had to set overnight, so we were not allowed to go into the TV room or kitchen area all day. The girls had a bit of a rough time, but were certainly better than they had been the first day!

My father came over at night, which was a big help! Not only do I love the results of the floor tile, but since there was no TV I caught up on some reading! (Richelle Mead's Succubus series, real classy stuff)

Thanks for following this journey with us!

Laying down Wonder Board (my favourite super-hero)

They laid out the 3 patterns for me to chose from....I chose the brick lay-out, there was no time for a vote

Setting the tile

Finished tile placement-I LOVE the brick pattern!

Kitchen Day 2: She's Electric

Kitchen Day Two: Electrical & structural

Maya & Julia did FAR better yesterday! We were able to let the girls into the TV room last night, just blocking off the kitchen area. They were much happier!

Setting the wall for the breakfast bar on one side & cabinets on the other

Setting ceiling for more lighting

Breakfast bar wall in place, setting up dry wall along perimeter

Kitchen Day 1

Yesterday marked day one of the kitchen make-over I won from Platinum Kitchens thanks to many of you voting! Everyone from Platinum Kitchen's crew have been very nice & professional!

Julia & Maya has a rough time with all the newness last night. It will be worth it in the long run to have a safe kitchen area! Hopefully they will adjust throughout the week!

Here is a visual breakdown of day 1: Demolition Day!!!! See previous post for all the "before" kitchen photos!

Cabinet removal begins!

Cabinets gone & starting to remove tile

It's hard to believe, isn't it?

End of day 1: kitchen gone, couches back in place to watch TV!
Very 70's-looking!

More & Faster, here we come!

I have decided to add some more "before" photos of the kitchen for your viewing pleasure. Work begins next week on the new kitchen!

I will post updates & pix of the renovation as it happens!

Bid adieu to my Bavarian cabinetry
Wouldn't want to be you, 1960's oven!

Itchin' In the Kitchen

Sooooooooooo excited for my kitchen make-over project by Platinum Kitchens to begin! Tentative start date is Feb 13th, 2012! I have an appointment to pick out cabinets & counter tops next week!

Our current situation: safety gate in between kitchen & TV room to keep Julia off the stove & out of the kitchen.

I have made some decisions! I need to purchase a new range & hood. Range shopping=exciting; hood shopping=not so much. Quite happy with what I picked out!

Kitchen Aid Architect Series gas range
Double convection ovens, proofing mode to rise  yeast,  5 burners, including center oblong  griddle burner

Kitchen Aid Architect Series Hood
This will be the main focal point of the room, which will connect the kitchen to  the TV room

All the top cabinets will be removed to open up the space, a tall breakfast bar will be installed between rooms, and the range hood will be the only thing hanging from the ceiling. This will open up the room while still keeping the children safe as they get taller & stronger.

The Basement, it is A-Changing

I am amused that I started this blog to chronicle the process of turning Julia & Maya's nursery into a big girl room and spiraled completely out of control as all things in life seem to do. The basement is finished (for now) and February begins our KITCHEN MAKEOVER!!!! Very excited about that!

Onto the basement improvements:

Before: solid color concrete wall, cluttered, exposed wires & hazards

After: painted concrete blocks in 2 different hues to create "brick" effect, break up the monochrome, and add warmth to the area; purchased CD cabinet to control & hide the sprawling CD collection

Before

After: Bookshelf filled with toys all binned by type for requesting.
After: Ikea swing replaced with  platform swing with interchangeable hammock swing

Before: cluttered, unusable space

After: work area for the girls
Work table, PECS board, favorite activities binned for requesting, bubble tube and cushioned platform base for chilling out
